What Is Your Motivation?

Isn’t it amazing the way God works? Yesterday while I was writing my blog, a facebook message came in. I ignored it while I put the finishing touches on my article, clicked “publish”,  then checked the message. It was Israel Eziedo sending me a guest devotional on the exact same passage I was writing about. Coincidence? I don’t think so! Here’s what Israel had to share on the subject of love.

1 Corinthians 13:2 If I speak God’s Word with power, revealing all his mysteries and making everything plain as day, and if I have faith that says to a mountain, “Jump,” and it jumps, but I don’t love, I’m nothing. (MSG)

It is quite easy to become famous and rich through filmmaking. With the right strategies, you can get wealthy as an actor and filmmaker. But is this your motivation?

God gives us His gifts so that through our good deeds, men may glorify Him. This must be our goal: to bring glory to God’s holy Name and pleasure to His precious heart.

Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

The plan of God is to save men and bring them to know Him personally and intimately. This must also be our pursuit and passion.

Ephesians 4:11-12 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

Sure, God blesses us through our work and we could get popular with people. But if we make these our motivation rather than selfless love, we have missed the mark and become noise-making empty vessels working without hope of a divine reward (1 Cor. 13:1-3)
