Growing up, books were my closest friends. Nowadays, though, my time for reading is limited and I tend towards nonfiction books. When I do take time for fiction, I prefer books by authors who are no longer living. I NEVER read contemporary stories by contemporary authors. I never read books with male protagonists. I never read a political thrillers, or for that matter, any other kind of thriller. With all that said, I just read Persecuted and it is now my new favorite book.
I was blessed to meet and interview Daniel Lusko at the National Religious Broadcasters convention this past February. As he shared about Persecuted, his upcoming film, I was impressed with his passion and the evidence of thought that he had put into the planning and execution of the story. I had no idea that there would be a book until I was offered it to review.
I was intrigued by the concept, but I must admit, I put off reading Persecuted for awhile. I just wasn’t sure if it would hold my attention.
I needn’t have worried. Robin Parrish has taken Daniel’s story and brought it to life on paper. She allows us to get into the minds of not just John Luther, the evangelist who’s being persecuted, but we are given a glimpse into the minds of the powerful senator, the FBI agents, and even the professional hit man. The story also bounces back and forth between what’s currently going on and scenes from John’s past that help clarify who he is now. The story is full of unexpected twists and turns until we never have a clue what will happen next. And then the ending…. Well, let’s just say I’m not normally a fan of open endings, but this one felt wildly satisfying.
I can’t wait to see Persecuted on the big screen. This is a movie that everyone in America needs to see. It’s a wake up call to stand up for what’s right and not allow ourselves to be swayed by public opinion. Go ahead and get your copy of the book, then July 18, head to the theater to see the movie. You’ll be glad you did!
If you’d like to win your own copy of the novel, comment below. A winner will be chosen at random on July 12.
